The Pathway is listed in a publication from the State of Michigan called Creative published by MACAA. It is listed on their site for getting the grant in 2004. It is also listed on the Glastar website for winning a special recognition award for mosaics.
An international award was given to Lorin Kummer at a ceremony in Florida in the spring of 2004. The award included a $1,000 prize. Lorin turned the check over to CCA to be used for signage and completion of the Pathway project.

Exciting news about the Chelsea Community’s Pathway to Renewal Mosaic! The Pathway Project won an International Award of Merit for Community Humanitarian Achievement from Coverings, International..
Coverings represents 124 countries and cities around the globe, Each year they gather for a huge convention where they select 11 winners for different merit and achievement awards, for Architectural Design, Artistic excellence, Technical creativity and expertise in the use of tile, glass, stone, marble, granite and other materials.
Over 29,000 people attended this 4 day conference in Orlando, Florida. The Keynote speaker was Steve Forbes from Forbes Magazine. The Pathway to Renewal Mosaic was viewed by over 5000 folks from all over the world on two huge television screens and received honors, an entire promotional packet, a beautiful engraved crystal award and a check for $1000 which was donated to CCDA (CCA) for the Pathway Sign. Janice Stevens Botsford from the CCA Advisory board and Artist Lorin Kummer entered the project last Fall, and both attended to receive the award.
Over 100 photographers from different global publications from around the world feature the Coverings event in their magazines and newspapers, and many agreed to send copies of them to us. It is tremendous to have this beautiful collaborative community effort honored in this way. The whole world has had a chance to see what a great place Chelsea is and what positive collaboration can do!
We were told the Coverings panel of judges was so moved by the Spirit of Renewal in which the piece was created that they actually created this award category and our community of Chelsea received the first award of this kind ever given! We were also told that due to our entry, the panel decided to consider other ways that they might reach out to communities in service and they added a symposium on Partnering with Habitat for Humanity to the Coverings Convention roster! We want everyone in the Chelsea community, who worked so hard to bring the mosaic to life, to hear about their wonderful accomplishment! This will be the second award given to the Pathway project. The first was a national award, given by Glastar, Inc., in recognition and High Honors for Community Achievement.
There are so many in Chelsea that truly love the Pathway to Renewal, and now it seems to have international appeal as well!
