Summer of 2003, and work was in full swing on the mosaic project. Artists Janice Stevens Botsford, Bill Darwin II, Marsi Darwin, Rick DeTroyer, Lorin Kummer, and Nancy Solo oversaw cutting the glass and laying the tile. Literally hundreds of volunteers worked on the piece over the course of the summer.
The first week, Bill Darwin II began with cutting leaves which would be set in cement leading to the spiral, and sprinkled throughout.

Guest artist Janice Stevens Botsford works on the first panel.
After a panel was cut and glued into place on fiberglass mesh in the garage, it was brought inside and laid on the pattern in the library.
The first and second panels are finished!

After many weeks of work by many hands, the design was complete. Artist Karen Smith fused the centerpiece.

At last the finished panels were ready to lay onsite.
Hershey Card and Joe Kummer carefully transported the panels to the site at Timber Town.
Then the outside work really began.

The site before laying the first leaves in cement.

A bed of gravel was laid.
Panels were mortared onto a cement pad.

The work continued day and night...

in all kinds of weather.
Grouting and cleaning...

Rows of bricks were set around the pathway, and a seating area is nearby. Landscaping is also being done.

Rick DeTroyer created a sign for the entrance to the site.

The next step is a gate to the pathway, created by Rick DeTroyer and Bill Darwin II. A scale model graced the site the day of the dedication. It was auctioned at CCDA's Autumn Jubilee on October 11, 2003.
